Does JPMorgan Chase Sponsor H-1B? Approvals, Senate Scrutiny, and What OPT and CPT Students Should Know in 2026

GlanceJobs Team · Published October 10, 2026

Yes — JPMorgan Chase is the largest H-1B user among major U.S. financial firms, with 2,440 new H-1B approvals in FY 2025. But the bank's own early-career program postings say they carry no OPT or CPT support, so how you enter matters.

Does JPMorgan Chase sponsor H-1B visas? Yes. In a September 24, 2025 letter to CEO Jamie Dimon, Senators Chuck Grassley and Dick Durbin wrote that JPMorgan received approval for 2,440 H-1B employees in fiscal year 2025, which made it the eighth-largest employer of newly approved H-1B beneficiaries in the country. That is by far the largest number among major U.S. financial firms. The catch for students: JPMorgan's sponsorship is concentrated in experienced technology and quantitative hires, and at least one of its early-career program postings states that it will not support OPT or CPT.

JPMorgan H-1B approvals by the numbers

  • FY 2025 H-1B approvals: 2,440, per the Grassley–Durbin letter to JPMorgan, which ranks the bank eighth nationally among employers of newly approved H-1B beneficiaries.
  • FY 2024 comparison: Newsweek's analysis of federal data reported JPMorgan's approvals rising from 1,719 to 2,440, one of the larger raw increases among employers.
  • Industry context: reporting on the Trump administration's H-1B fee noted that the ten largest U.S. financial firms received about 12,000 H-1B visas in 2025, with JPMorgan the largest at 2,440.

We were not able to verify JPMorgan's continuing-employment approvals or Labor Condition Application counts from a primary source for this article, so we have left them out. You can check the current year-by-year figures in the USCIS H-1B Employer Data Hub and on the GlanceJobs sponsor pages linked below.

Which roles JPMorgan sponsors

A third-party sponsorship guide based on public LCA data says JPMorgan's H-1B filings are concentrated in technology and quantitative roles, such as software engineering, data, and quant research, rather than in traditional banking analyst positions. Treat that as directional, not official: JPMorgan does not publish a sponsorship policy by job family. Use the Department of Labor's LCA disclosure data to see actual titles and wages before you target a team.

OPT, STEM OPT, and CPT at JPMorgan

  • Official wording matters. A JPMorgan 2027 Corporate Analyst Development Program summer analyst posting states the firm will not provide assistance or sign documentation in support of immigration sponsorship or benefits, including OPT or CPT, and that the full-time role that may follow is not eligible for employment-based sponsorship. Read the eligibility section of every posting.
  • Other programs differ. Posting language varies by program and year, and forum reports (unverified, anecdotal) describe candidates with a 3-year STEM OPT window being considered for some banking roles. Confirm with campus recruiting in writing before you rely on this.
  • STEM OPT: employers must be enrolled in E-Verify and complete a Form I-983 training plan with you. Finance, economics, business, and accounting degrees generally do not qualify for the STEM extension; the degree's CIP code must be on the STEM list.
  • Technology and quant hires are where JPMorgan's H-1B volume is. A CS, data, math, or engineering degree is the strongest fit.

Recent news: Senate scrutiny and the $100,000 fee

JPMorgan was one of ten large H-1B employers that Senators Grassley and Durbin wrote to in September 2025, asking for data on H-1B headcount, wages, and any displacement of American workers by October 10, 2025. The letter pointed to JPMorgan's announced layoffs of up to a thousand workers despite record profits. Separately, after Proclamation 10973 created the $100,000 H-1B payment in September 2025, Dimon said the order "caught everyone off guard," and the bank said it would be "engaging with stakeholders and policymakers." Dimon also said "visas matter because we move people around globally." Analysts warned the fee could hit banks harder than tech because of entry-level hiring. The fee has since been the subject of court rulings and a renewal proclamation; see our policy coverage linked below for its current status. We found no 2026-dated JPMorgan-specific statement on H-1B sponsorship.

What this means if you are on F-1, CPT, or OPT

  • Apply for the right track. JPMorgan's H-1B volume is large, but it is mostly technology and quant roles. If you are applying to banking analyst programs, check whether the posting excludes OPT/CPT.
  • Read each posting's work-authorization language and save a copy. If it says no OPT/CPT, an application will not change that.
  • If you are in a STEM field, ask the recruiter directly about E-Verify enrollment and STEM OPT (Form I-983) before the offer stage.
  • Do not rely on one employer. Build a list of banks, fintechs, and tech firms with a visible sponsorship record, and track their USCIS data hub numbers each year.
  • Watch layoff and fee developments: the administration has directed agencies to weigh employer layoffs in H-1B adjudications, and a bank that is cutting staff may face more scrutiny.

Bottom line

JPMorgan Chase sponsors H-1B visas at scale: 2,440 approvals in FY 2025, the largest among major banks. But that sponsorship is not evenly available to students. Technology and quant candidates have the clearest path, while at least some early-career banking programs explicitly exclude OPT and CPT. Verify the specific program, and keep multiple employers in play.
